RAFFLES HOTEL

For my first day at Singapore I decided to start from the simplest things since my night has been almost sleepless. At 10 o'clock I was already in Orchard Road at ION Orchard Mall, the Mall more surprising of this shopping street. From outside you have the impression of entering in a futuristic temple, everything is done of glass and steel and inside the mall is very sophisticated. The boutiques are those world wide famous big brands, the positive note is that here the sales have already begun. I continued to walk in Orchard Road, the Christmas decoration are amazing, along the way there are cribs, glass domes with trains and toys inside and the decorations are blinding. My walk has finished at the Paragon Shopping Centre, I came here following an advice given by Chef Anthony Bourdain in one of its tv programs, in fact he was eating at the Din Tai Fung restaurant which serves specialties of Taiwan. The advice has proved to be invaluable. I ate in a delicious way, I recommend the divine xiao long boa, noodles in beef broth and dan dan noodles, not to mention the variety of dumplings cooked inside in the kitchens of restaurant made of glass. The queue outside is a proof itself, but waiting times and service are hyper efficient..like everything in Singapore! After lunch I took a taxi and I went to the Bugis Street Market, a sort of Bazaar with loud house music stretching over a wide area which offers dresses, accessories and handbags cheap but really funny ..for example I bought a pair of hot pants with the American flag for about 5 euros that in the boutiques of Tommy Hilfiger costed 250! Of course, the quality is not be the same but for clothes of this kind I think is not worthy spending too much! Coming out from here I went to the Arab Quarter, the Arab/Muslim neighborhood and here I found some wonderful shops, they seemed like many small concept store, here I found jewelry, shoes, books and clothes of emerging designers. Take a look at SOON LEE 13-Haji Lane-whose owner has a four-legged collaborator, Jack the cat, and Haji Lane DULCETFIG-41-here I bought bracelets handmade with semi-precious stones and a pair sandals done in plastic perfect to go at the sea side and I spent around 140 euros for the both.

After walking all day I came back to the hotel for a massage and a healthy sleep before going to dinner at the 70th floor of Swiss hotel restaurant Equinox. Wonderful view of the city but the food was not up to expectations and bill!

Per il mio primo giorno a Singapore ho deciso di iniziare dalle cose semplici data la notte praticamente insonne. Alle 10 ero già in Orchard Road al ION Orchard Mall, il centro commerciale più sorprendente di questa strada dello shopping. Da fuori si ha l'impressione di entrare in un tempio futuristico fatto tutto di vetro e acciaio e dentro l'ambiente è molto sofisticato. Le boutique sono quelle delle grandi griffes di fama mondiale, la nota positiva è che qui i saldi sono già iniziati. Ho poi continuato a camminare per Orchard Road, le decorazioni natalizie sono splendide, per la strada ci sono presepi, cupole in vetro con all'interno trenini e giocattoli e decorazioni luminose molto suggestive. Il mio giro è terminato al Paragon Shopping Centre dove sono andata seguendo il consiglio dello chef Anthony Bourdain che in uno dei suoi programmi aveva decantato le qualità del ristorante Din Tai Fung che serve specialità di Taiwan. Il consiglio si è rivelato prezioso. Ho mangiato divinamente, vi consiglio gli xiao long boa, i noodles in brodo di manzo e i dan dan noodles, per non parlare della varietà di dumplings cucinati a vista nelle cucine di vetro del ristorante. La coda prua da sé, ma i tempi di attesa e il servizio sono iper efficenti..come tutto a Singapore! Finito il pranzo ho preso un taxi e sono andata al Bugis Street Market, una specie di bazar con musica a tutto volume che si snoda per una vasta area e propone abitini, accessori e borse a poco prezzo ma davvero divertenti..io ad esempio ho comprato un paio di hot pants con la bandiera americana a circa 5 euro, nella boutique di Tommy Hilfiger me ne avevano chiesti 250! Certo, la qualità non sarà la stessa ma per capi di questo tipo credo non valga la pena spendere troppo! Uscita da qui sono andata all'Arab Quarter, il quartiere arabo/musulmano e ho trovato dei negozi meravigliosi, sembravano quasi tanti piccoli concept store, con gioielli scarpe, libri e abiti di stilisti emergenti. Vi segnalo SOON LEE - 13 Haji Lane - la cui proprietaria ha un collaboratore a quattro zampe, il gatto Jack, e DULCETFIG - 41 Haji Lane - qui ho comprato dei bracciali fatti a mano con pietre dure e un paio di scarpe con il tacco completamente in gomma spendendo in tutto circa 140 euro.

Dopo aver camminato tutto il giorno sono rientrata in hotel e mi sono concessa un massaggio e una sana dormita prima di andare a cena al 70esimo piano dello Swiss hotel al ristorante Equinox. Meravigliosa la vista sulla città ma la cucina non si è rivelata all'altezza delle aspettative e del conto!
