My World Wide Fashion Blog: BABY, LET'S TAKE BANGKOK!

As soon as we’ve arrived to Penang we’ve found out that that was not a place for us. The weather was not good as in Langkawi even if the distance is not that long and the sea was grey and dirty. I had opted for the Eastern and Oriental Hotel, www.eohotels.com, where I had a beautiful suite ground floor with the garden and the hotel pool in front, the service was good and the restaurant behind the pool served good interantional and asian cuisine. I would recommend this hotel since is similar to Raffles Hotel in Singapore, really classy and well furnished, and like Raffles it has been the place in which famous writers like Sir Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling, Hermann Hesse and Somerset Maugham have spent their time writing their masterpieces...so it had to have been inspiring at the time.
Georgetown is part of UNESCO's World Heritage Cities Program, but I can’t see the real reason why, ok there are some corners of the city that are beautiful but the lack of structures makes the trip unworty. The island is not organized for tourism, is dangerous to walk alone almost everywhere and there’s not a wide choice of things to do. So the same night that I arrived I’ve booked a flight to go to Bangkok the day after! I know, it’s quite crazy but my time is more precious than the two prepaid nights there. I’m so happy that I’ve had the opportunity to spend three days in Bangkok! That city is amazing! I’ve been super lucky because The Mandarin Oriental Hotel still had one room available, so I just left with the first flight available. In one hour and half I was in Bangkok and my New Years Eve couldn’t be better. First of all The Mandarin Oriental Hotel as a service that is impressive and perfect. Starting from the big BMW limo that came to the airport to pick me up with a super gentle driver who had taken care of me for all my stay in Bangkok (at a reasonable price). At my arrival at the hotel I was brought directly in room to do my check in and some complimentary flowers and cocktails were immediately offered. The Mandarin has a lot of restaurants which overlook the Chao Praya river, a thousands boat daily cross the river and are so romantic and beautiful to be seen. They are the typical Thai boats covered with lights that bring the hotel guests on the other side of the Chao Praya river where The Mandarin (or The Oriental as they call it) have a Thai Restaurant called Rim Naam, the SPA and the Gym. Talking about the SPA I can tell you that is one of the most beautiful and well organized that I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen at least 100 in the best hotels of the world). When you get in everything is so classy and sumptuous (as everything in the hotel) but the best is yet to come. There is not a changing room with lockers because for each treatment the guests have at their disposal a big room where they can find a closet, a safe keeper, a bath tube, a giant shower, all the amenities that can be wished starting from shampoo, hair masque, body lotion, scrub etc ect... so you just have to get in, take off your clothes, start your massage and at the end you can take all the time you need to have a shower or jump in a bubbly warm bath tube, make up and do what ever you need for your next appointment. Maybe a romantic one! But I don’t want to tell you everything now. Imagine that has been only the beginning! Imagine that in this Hotel in 1974 James Bond and Mary Goodnight have had dinner here shooting The man Withe The Golden Gun. Imagine what happened for NYE.....

Non appena siamo arrivati a Penang abbiamo capito subito che c'era qualcosa che non andava. Il tempo non era bello come a Langkawi, anche se le due isole non sono poi così distanti e il mare era grigio e sporco. Avevo prenotato alEastern and Oriental Hotel, www.eohotels.com, dove ho trovato una bellissima suite al piano terra con giardino proprio di fronte alla piscina dell'hotel, il servizio era buono e il ristorante dietro la piscina serviva una buona scelta di cucina asiatica e internazionale. Vorrei raccomandare questo hotel dal momento che è simile al Raffles Hotel a Singapore, davvero elegante e ben arredato, e come il Raffles è stato il luogo in cui famosi scrittori come Sir Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling, Hermann Hesse e Somerset Maugham hanno soggiornato e scritto parte dei loro capolavori... evidentemente all'epoca era grande fonte di fascino e ispirazione.

Georgetown, capoluogo dell'isola di Penang, è patrimonio dell'UNESCO, in realtà non sono ancora riuscita a capire perchè.. ok, ci sono alcuni angoli della città che sono belli e suggestivi, ma la mancanza di strutture rende il viaggio abbastanza deludente. L'isola non è organizzata per turismo, è sconsigliato camminare da soli per strada praticamente ovunque, i ristoranti sono pochi e di scarsa qualità (e prezzo esagerato). Così al rientro dalla cena ho prenotato un volo per andare a Bangkok il giorno dopo! Lo so, è abbastanza una follia, ma il mio tempo è più prezioso di due notti prepagate. Sono così felice che ho avuto l'opportunità di trascorrere tre giorni a Bangkok! Quella città è incredibile! Sono stata super fortunata perché The Mandarin Oriental Hotel aveva ancora una camera disponibile, così sono partita con primo volo disponibile. In un'ora e mezza ero in Bangkok e mio capodanno non avrebbe potuto essere migliore. Prima di tutto il Mandarin Oriental Hotel offre un servizio che impressionante e perfetto. A partire dalla grande Limousine BMW che è venuta in aeroporto a prendermi con un driver super gentile che si è poi preso cura di me durante tutto il mio soggiorno a Bangkok (ad un prezzo ragionevole). Al mio arrivo presso l'hotel sono stata fatta accomodare direttamente in camera per il check-in, ho trovato orchidee fresche e colorate ad aspettarmi con un cocktail gelato e dissetante sulla scrivania. Il Mandarin ha diversi ristoranti che si affacciano sul fiume Chao Praya, attraversato ogni giorno da migliaia di barche per non parlare di quelle dell'hotel che sono illuminate da tantissime lucine e rendono il tutto romantico e suggestivo alla vista. Si tratta di barche tipicamente Thai che portano gli ospiti dell'hotel su altro lato del fiume Chao Praya dove il Mandarin (o Oriental come comunemente viene chiamato) dispone di un ristorante Thai chiamato Rim Naam, della SPA e della palestra. Parlando della SPA vi posso dire che è una delle più belle e meglio organizzate che abbia mai visto (e ne ho viste almeno 100 nei migliori Hotel del mondo). Dopo essere scesi dall barche si viene accompagnati alla recepito della SPA per parlare del trattamento scelto, ma il meglio deve ancora venire. Non esiste uno spogliatoio con armadietti perché per ogni trattamento gli ospiti hanno a disposizione una grande sala con un armadio, una cassaforte, una vasca, una doccia gigantesca, e tutti gli accessori che si possono desiderare a partire dallo shampoo, la maschera per capelli, le lozioni per il corpo, scrub ecc ect... quindi è sufficiente entrare, togliersi i vestiti, iniziare il massaggio e alla fine si può prendere tutto il tempo necessario per fare una doccia o entrare nella vasca da bagno piena di schiuma soffice e profumata di lotus e zenzero, truccarsi e fare tutto ciò che si desidera per continuare la giornata. Ma non voglio dirvi tutto ora. Immaginate che è stato solo l'inizio! Immaginate che in questo Hotel nel 1974 James Bond e Mary Goodnight hanno cenato qui in The Man With The Golden Gun. Immaginate capodanno....
